Maria Vassiloglou completed her undergraduate studies at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the ATEI of Thessaloniki. During her studies she participated in the "Erasmus Placement" program in Moenchengladbach, Germany where she prepared her dissertation on hyperlipidemia. She then traveled to Valencia, Spain where she volunteered as a dietitian at a camp for children with type 1 diabetes. There she found that these "sweeter" kids were the area she would like to work in the future. So she continued her postgraduate studies at the University of Glasgow, where she obtained an MSc in Human Nutrition with a specialization in Clinical Nutrition and a diploma in Type 1 Diabetes. Returning to Greece, Maria studied endocrinology and nutrition as a collaboration with the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. At the same time, she actively participated in the promotion of healthy eating in primary schools while teaching nutrition for professionals at IEK AKMI. She is a member of the European and Hellenic Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, the Association of Dietitians-Nutritionists of Greece (EDDE) as well as the working group for Type 1 Diabetes in children and adolescents in Greece. She has worked at the European Commission's Joint Research Center in Italy, specifically at the Institute for Health and Consumer Protection, providing scientific support for European Union food and nutrition policies.
